This photo was taken just six weeks before my bilateral mastectomy, a surgery to free me from the worries of a high risk of cancer. This is one of my favorite photos of our family because it captures all of us in a rare moment of shared joy! We get so caught up in our busy 24/7 lives that we don’t often, as a family, make time to just enjoy the simple things: a sunny day, an afternoon together in the park, and a beautiful person (Jess) to capture these moments. This photo, when I see it now, reminds to me take hold of life’s little laughter, spirit, and friendship. And, it reminds me of the steps we’ve taken as a family to live a longer, healthier, happier life together.
