A perfect round little munchkin met me at the door when I arrived for our shoot this weekend – look at these incredible toes and fingers!

And a great tongue :)

He loved playing with his mom and dad:

And mirrored dad so cutely here:

A smooch from his mama:
 And giggles with her, too:
 So very handsome.

And even in the land of the perfect photoshoots, sometimes photos like this…

Lead to photos like this (oops! yes, that’s spitup):

So great to meet you guys!

You might wonder what nine year old big brother J and two year old little brother J have in common, but spend a few minutes with them and it’s obvious. They’re football fanatics!

Twinkling eyes and all…

I loved the way little brother J wanted to do whatever his big brother did… he followed him all around and just looked at him so lovingly the whole time.

And their mom was such a great football mama – going for the tackle when she was directed to…

Doing some spinning all over the place…

And the boys spent some time searching for bumble bees together, too.
Right before I left, J offered to show me his skills on the ramp – he’s such a great athlete! Great to meet you guys.

Woo hoo! It’s leaf throwing season! I love it, love it. This was all older brother H’s idea – he played prop guy and had the pile of leaves all ready for us when I arrived at 8am on Saturday morning. Impressive preparation skills!
And when the leaves are dry (i.e. not wet from weather, making your hands all cold) but not too crunchy (so they fall apart in your hands), nothing stops two energetic dudes from giving them a good toss. And the devilish smiles you get can’t be beat.

Sooo funny:

Again, glad the camera’s relatively weatherproof… ;)

Mayhem ensued…

But that was fine with me.

You guys are getting so big!

And we even had a chance to grab some inside pictures. This one at the bottom of their stairs almost looks like studio lighting to me. Their smiles are really just the best. So great to see you guys – thanks for starting the day early for me!

This little sweet boy did so well on his picture day – he loved playing with his mom and dad:

And cuddling in his dad’s arms (isn’t he gorgeous?)

And mom’s arms, too, of course:

He got a little hungry at one point, and gave me the very best pout:

But once he got his point across, got his bottle and some rocking from dad…
Had himself a burp on dad’s shoulder:
All was right with the world. Those perfect little fingers wrapped around dad’s just make me smile. Wonderful to meet you guys!

OK, so I don’t know if I’ve ever had a blog post for a photoshoot with two young boys where all my favorite shots were of the two of them together. Little guys are notoriously hard to get in the same frame! They’re fast and full of fabulous energy, and I always know I’m going to get my workout when I’m taking their picture. But these guys just loved spending time together, and we got tons and tons of great pictures of them together.
Little T’s tongue in this shot is my favorite, and big brother C’s eyes closed in delight after those first few tastes:

I’ve been shooting these guys since they were wee ones, and they’ve since moved to Maine, but they’ve been coming back to Boston for the past few years to do shoots here with me – I’m so glad! Don’t you love this hug?

Race you to the top of the hill!

Glad I sprung for the waterproofing on the camera ;)…

What, what’s that you say? Jess, you should really research your locations a bit before you schedule shoots? Because you never know when there’s going to be a walk to raise money for a good cause (see droves of walkers behind the boys in this shot)… which’ll make parking tough, and shooting with nice simple backgrounds even tougher? But you know what? I embrace the challenge! I love what this did to me here, when I dropped to my knees to avoid the walkers in the background a bit, I love the way the sky looks behind the boys. ;)

And ice cream makes grins. It’s a scientific fact.

When kids connect with each other in a photo, I just love it…

And I know you guys didn’t want a family photo, but hey, this one worked, don’t you think? Thanks so much for making the trek, it was great to see you as always.

I love playing with your kids pictures. They’re the kind of photos that are worth hiring a photographer to take – because you really can’t take them yourself, no matter how skilled you are with the camera’s timer. These girls begged and begged for UNDERDOGS! until their fun parents relented:

And OK, ok, pictures of the kids themselves smiling are pretty great too…

One more swinging picture, sorry to have too many all at once – I just loved the toes in this one:

And baby girl L is getting so big! We got tons of giggly pictures of her too, but for some reason I love her pout here.

Toss ‘em in the air like you just don’t care!

I also love to look at the lines of eye contact in family photos… who’s looking at who…

My sister has the silliest tongue!

So fun to hang out with you guys and get pictures again – thanks for having me back!

Something was in the air two weeks ago when we had this photoshoot. I don’t know what it was, but even as I was shooting it, I knew it was all just working. The weather was incredible, sparkling off the pond… The subjects were two sweet sisters I’ve been shooting for four or five years – and this was the first time we did a location shoot. I was worried the mean geese would show up at our duck pond, but no, the ducks were the only ones who showed up…

The girls did some running for me:

And bubble blowing:

And wagon rides:

Even some tow rides in the wagon:

Big beautiful sister A:

Little lovely sister K:

And then, just when we thought the shoot was over… (the girls were kind of losing it…)

Mom swept in:

And with a little crazy tossing and spinning, all was right with the world:

The girls even blew me kisses as I was leaving. I told you. It all just worked. Great to see you guys as always!

So I first took pics of this little beauty when she was 8 weeks old. Then again when she was 8 months old. And then last week we did photos again, and she’s 88 weeks old! Her parents are so good at this :) I hope we do it again before she turns 8!

We got to include her two older cousins in the shoot this time, and it was obvious how much she LOVES spending time with them:

We went walking to the park, and I looked down at O in her stroller, and she was holding hands with her cousin as she walked alongside! Had to snap it as a pic – isn’t it so sweet?

Look at that headband and fantastic pointing finger:

And the headband again – this time with a killer pout:

Sweet girl on the playground:

I think it’s possible this is the first time I’ve gotten the Zakim Bridge in the background of photo :)

The gorgeous cousins:

This next one is kind of Abbey Road-esque, but I love it. Great to see you guys!

So I’m taking a break from my regularly scheduled photoshoot blog to post a quick story/pics from our weekend trip to StoryLand with some wonderful friends. Their 14 month old Hayden had the best expressions… #1:

#2:

and #3:

(Hehe, see what I mean?) And last but not least, showing me his four teeth:
Even though they told me not to bring my camera so I wouldn’t feel like I was working all weekend, I didn’t listen – I had a chance to photograph my own kids for once… this time of year my girls are the cobbler’s children… no photos, poor babies. ;) Had to jump at the chance. Here’s my teenie Sadie, 4 1/2 months old and loving her own toes:

Grins from my girl:

Hayden, not sure what to make of Sadie:

And 4 year old Annie, giving Sadie a squeeze:

All the kiddos on a hotel bed:

And then at the very end of the weekend, as we headed to our cars, we stopped by a bush to grab a family shot – and Hayden was such a good model! We love you guys, thanks for a great weekend. And to my clients… tomorrow I’ll be back to my regularly scheduled work!

Oh, but before I leave you, and lest you think I only shoot b&w on vacation… do not fear! I too, have a pocket-sized digital camera, and the White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland at Storyland gave the grown-ups an opportunity to be total weirdos and do rabbit impressions. Nice, eh?

This handsome guy was thrilled to head off into his grandparents’ back yard with me and show me around as soon as I walked in the door. It was so sweet, he was so independent right away! His parents stayed inside the kitchen door for a while, so this adorable guy and I could spend some time playing trains and taking eyelash pictures (can you guess which of us was doing which thing?)

But when they came outside to play, his parents and he had a great time playing together:
 And check out that smile!

“My parents are SO funny.” :)

Getting a spin on Mom’s head:
And doing another kind of fun spinning:

And of course we had to get a few inside on the couch pictures – doesn’t he look handsome in his dress-up sweater? So great to meet you guys!

Look at this big handsome boy! I can’t believe it’s been a year already since we took his newborn pictures. I was newly pregnant with my Sadie at the shoot last year, and his sweet mom recommended I get a Kindle for those early weeks when new babies spend all their time sleeping on you – it’s nice and light to hold in one hand… great suggestion! And I’m a gadget geek, so I was happy to have another reason to need one :)
But now look at this little guy – I love this as his parents tickle his toes…

And crawling across the bed, with a twinkle in his eye:

Playing with Mom’s necklace:

I feel like this shot looks like he just caught sight of his buddy across the playground… such a big boy expression:

Happy with daddy:

With his pretty momma:
And a pensive gaze in the swing (poor munchkin was getting a bit tired toward the end of the shoot – but I have to admit I love this sweet quiet shot we grabbed at the end)…

Really great to see you guys!

Warning – I am about to post waaaay too many preview shots from this shoot. I can’t help myself, because the last time I saw this family their two older children were just babies, and now they’ve added another beautiful girl, and even she is already getting big! So I had a wonderful time seeing them again, and editing their pictures is tons of fun for me… I just keep seeing snatches of the way they looked when they were just toddlers.
So this one is one of my faves – as the three of them share a huge jar of M&M’s. You know how I feel about tootsies.

Don’t they all have incredible eyes?

Mom and her little man:

Isn’t the mischief just twinkling in his eyes?

A laugh with dad:

And the girls with their dad:

Sweet girl B:

The girls share a laugh with mom:

And here’s big girl O, with the thickest, most incredible hair:
And then sitting nicely with mom:

These guys were so good at sitting together – just loads of fun.

Look at the twinkle in this one’s eyes! Isn’t she good at clapping?

Not only good at clapping, but also at jumping :)

I love her little hands and feet together in this one, and her questioning expression:

Daddy giggles:

And hollering with mama:

Sometimes my grandest plans go awry; sometimes that’s when a baby girl decides to squeeze her dad’s glasses a little too hard – oops :)

The profile shot here is just one of my favorites! I love her little sweet expression and that perfect little tummy poking out.

It was such a pleasure to meet you guys, thanks for having me out!

I love maternity sessions that I get to do just before a baby’s born, and then come back mere weeks later to meet a new perfect bundle! This gorgeous boy was born just two weeks before I met him last week, and although when I was visiting he hadn’t been sleeping much for his parents, I think he must have just been busy being a sweet perfect boy at all hours for them ;)

Love the tiny tiny legs:

Sweet cuddle:

With his doting dad:

Holding his mom’s thumb:

Looking longingly into mama’s eyes:

So you’d never know in this 2nd shot that it was pouring rain out, would you? These guys were such good sports to plop right now on the stairs to recreate their maternity shot from a few weeks before… and then toss me their umbrella at the last second. You thought teenie boy T was squinting his eyes because he was sleeping? No, just avoiding the rain in his eyes :)

Look at all these handsome guys! I met up with this wonderful family for the 2nd year in a row at a house they were renting on Wingaersheek Beach in Gloucester, and this year they had tons of extended family visiting. Three generations of men, first:

It’s so much fun documenting big families like this. It’s not my normal thing, but I like it :)

Wheeeeeee

i love this one – it’s such a sweet moment:

These guys were having such fun together…

And giggling was definitely the order of the day.

And their cousins needed some jumping shots too:

And back to the handsomest boys on Wingaersheek. Do you believe these smiles?
